I really loved Elise’s sentiment that “everyone has a hard part to their story.” I’ve been especially feeling the holiday grief since yesterday and I decided to keep reminding myself to embrace that I’ll probably cry on Christmas, just as I have every year since I lost my Grandpa. And that’s ok. The grief means I am still filled with love for him and that’s how I want it ❤️

My favorite comfort meal is spaghetti. Really easy to make and usually makes a large portion - perfect for someone who might not have the capacity to cook for a few days, or can feed a large group. We ate a lot of spaghetti when I was growing up so it always reminds me of home.

for me, the ultimate comfort meal is my mom's crawfish étouffée! it reminds me so much of evenings spent in the kitchen cooking with my mom and my late bubbie, and is always the dish I request when I come back home. this year I'm committed to learning it so I can start making it on my own and carry on the tradition 🤍

My favorite comfort meal is my grandfather's beef stew recipe with a side of rice. My grandfather was a cook in the Navy in the fifties, and he cooked like that all his life, so the stew flavoring comes from a McCormick's packet. But it reminds me of him, so it's the only way I can eat beef stew anymore.

My favorite comfort meal is a Korean beef and rice bowl! It's especially nice if only cooking for one or two people. If I'm having a particularly bad day, it never fails to make it a little better :)

my favorite comfort meal is, without a doubt, chicken and dumplings. as a southerner, it’s a staple…and if anyone has a favorite recipe, please share; i’m always trying to find good southern recipes to share with my friends in my now-northern-home of chicago ♥️

amazing read as always, jenna. thank you for touching on this subject that seems to get overlooked this time of year.

My husband makes ramen with the Buldak packages but he doctors it all up with cilantro, ground turkey, veggies, green onion, cream, cheese, etc. It’s quickly become my comfort meal bc it’s tasty and a labor of love from him 🥹

I love this! Thank you. My favorite comfort meal to take to others is a creamy chicken and veggie chili I make. Making it is like a prayer. Chopping each veggie, adding spices for comfort and with love…dropping off on the porch of someone who needs it is a delight. ❤️

My favorite thing to make when I or someone in my community is struggling is my abuelita’s caldo de albóndigas (meatball soup). It’s much better than it sounds - the flavorful meatballs, tender veggies, and a savory and slightly spicy broth are genuinely healing for me. I love to cook it with my family members or loved ones who may be having a hard time, and share memories of those gone too soon (or just cook in silent companionship, if that’s what’s needed).
