Soft Ledger by Christina Hazer's avatar

If I could bottle a scent, it would be the smell of a quiet morning before the house fully wakes up.

Fresh coffee brewing in the kitchen. Warm pancakes on the stove. Laundry just pulled from the dryer. Baby lotion lingering on tiny hands that still crawl into my bed before sunrise.

Notes of vanilla, honey, soft cotton, and a little bit of coffee in the air.

The feeling I’d bottle is the kind of morning where the world hasn’t started rushing yet. Just love, warmth, and the small ordinary moments that somehow end up becoming the memories we carry the longest.

I would bottle the smell when you woke up as a kid for field day. It was always the most bright, sunny day and the birds were so much louder. It smells like wet pavement, sunscreen, and melting popsicles.

I’d bottle up the smell of the book fair you’d go to in elementary school!! Bookish, happy, bright, layered!

I would love to have a fragrance for my memories at camp Merri-Mac in North Carolina! Think parent trap camp but in real life. Fresh mountain air, earthy wood cabins, new/fun girl friendships! There’s also this sweet smell in the mountains (some kind of plant like jasmine maybe) that is just glorious.

I wish I could have a perfume that smelled like 8:30pm on a June night when the sun starts to set, the light filters through the trees, and the cicadas are singing. Full, grounding, and playful

I'd bottle up the smell of my late grandmother's kitchen. That was the heart of her home and where she cooked for her kids and their kids for over 50 years. I'm pretty sure the smell of cornbread and pound cake must be baked into the home's walls. She adored piping hot, black coffee from an old-fashioned silver percolator any time of day. Vanilla, salt, and hints of melted butter (in a white bottle to match her hair).

My fragrance would be the smell of a cool summer evening growing up where we're staying outside as long as possible before the sun sets completely, giving away to the still chilly nights. A hay field mixed with blooming wildflowers, a tiny hint of grass, but mainly a crisp earthiness. Something that would catch the beginning of a light dew, and tiny twinge of a bonfire happening down the road. Can you fit happiness and pure contentedness in that bottle too??

I wish I could bottle the feelings and scents of my favourite bubble tea spot— a casual date night and group hangout spot that holds a lot of memories. I’m thinking notes of Jasmine and peach for sure, maybe some element of musk that reminds me of inching closer and closer to my crush as the hours go by and we get swept up in conversation.

"INCHING CLOSER TO MY CRUSH" as a scent note!

Fragrance is scientifically fascinating, let alone when you mix in the elixir of emotions and nostalgic memories!!

Right?!? Okay but tell me more about the science that fascinates you. Maybe next time I need to get a lab coat and report from the field because I don’t know a lot about the lab side!

The Fragrance Pyramid

Fragrances are often structured in a pyramid format, with high notes at the top, heart (middle) notes in the center, and low notes at the base. This structure helps to create a harmonious olfactory experience, where each layer unfolds over time, contributing to the overall scent journey. Understanding this pyramid can enhance your appreciation of how fragrances evolve and interact with your skin chemistry.

In summary, high notes provide the initial burst of scent, while low notes anchor the fragrance, ensuring it lingers and leaves a lasting impression. Together, they create a balanced and dynamic fragrance experience. There's ALOT to creating the perfect fragrant chemistry!! :)

I had to come back here to tell you I finally tried Dedcool. I got a sampler pack and the Xtra Milk dryer sheets.

I wanted to love Xtra Milk as a perfume but it fades way too quickly. However, Mochi Milk and Mineral Milk I love and can smell them on me throughout the day. I will probably continue to get the Xtra Milk dryer sheets and maybe splurge at some point on either Mochi or Mineral Milk. They are yummy and lovely respectively.

If I could bottle a scent it would be the way it smelled sitting on the dock at my grandfathers lake after swimming all day as a kid with my dad. Usually there’d also be strawberry picking at some point during the day so my fingers would be stained red from all the berries I’d eaten. It would probably not be the most popular smell but it would be earthy and warm and a little sweet!

I'd bottle the smell of my perfect cat's perfect little furry head when I give him kisses in the morning

I would bottle the scent of my newborn mornings. The sweet scent of my baby napping against my chest in the early morning, with a freshly brewed coffee nearby.

I would love the bottle the feeling and scent of a walk in the neighborhood after a spring rain. Some fragrant blooms coming alive mixed with post- fresh rainfall calm. A rebirth!! Feels like new years part 2 of the year. (Oh and the calm being pollen washed away)

I would love to bottle up the feeling of running out to the playground/backyard of my elementary school during recess, spring flowers blooming all around, not a care in the world except for what game am I going to play with my friends today

If I could bottle a scent, it would be the moment I pull away from my family’s house, them standing on the porch, arms wrapped around each other, waving until the car turns the corner and they disappear from view. The air always feels sweet then, full of the warmth of a weekend spent together, but also tinged with the quiet ache of leaving.

And I’d bottle the opposite, too... the scent of arriving. The feeling of turning into the driveway and seeing them already waiting, eager smiles and open arms. The air seems softer then :)
