Group project:

Hi! Hope you all are well! Thank you for reading today's post! I have a few things I'd love your thoughts on:

1. I'm working on making a March menu for homemade lattes and tea lattes! Are there any certain flavors or colors speaking to you lately?!

2. I am not currently selling any prints of my artwork, but have thought about making them available digitally, exclusively for Substack. Have you ever bought a digital print? Do you like the process? Or was something about it frustrating?

3. Seeking recommendations for fictional reads that feel like spring. Emphasis on classics/light-hearted.

A coffee shop in my town does an orange blossom white mocha for spring and it’s amazing. My goal is to recreate this season, inspired by your monthly menus!

Jenna O'Brien's avatar

That sounds incredible. Please keep me posted on your creation!

1. Vanilla always speaks to me! It’s a magical flavor 😁

2. I have bought an art print from you. I found the process quite easy! It was for a gift, and I had it printed on the same day at Walmart. It worked out because I had other things to get for the gift bag 😊

3. I would recommend “Kisses and Croissants” as a light-hearted spring read. Just a fair warning, it will make you want to visit Paris and buy a Vespa! Atomic Habits and The Life-Changing Magic of Tidying Up are nice if you are in the mood for growth and organization this spring.

I got an almond and blackberry latte from a local coffee shop and it was so tasty!

I’ve been enjoying fig flavored bevys (vanilla matcha or latte)!

honey lavender latte! i'll drink it year round but it feels very springlike.

Hi Jenna! I hope you’re feeling better. Here are my answers to your proposed queries:

1. Chai! Chai with anything but especially honey

2. Love buying digital prints!

3. I don’t have a recommendation for anything fun and lighthearted as I gravitate towards psychological thrillers. So if you ever need a rec for that genre let me know!

Great read!

Roots & Sky by Christie Purifoy is an excellent read for transitioning into a new season! Non-fiction, but full of inspiring and thoughtful prose.

So for number 3, I bought a copy of Pride and Prejudice back in like August and have had it sitting on my bookshelf because it feels like it should be a spring read. I’ve never read it so I can’t confirm, but I have been waiting for months to take it out.

(Also I still have the Joann Fabrics app on my phone because I refuse to believe it’s really gone 💔)

Very part time barista here and full time brand designer, so I have some very specific things for you:

--I make a bourbon vanilla syrup for at-home lattes. It's a simple sugar made with brown sugar and a cheap bourbon and vanilla extract! (1 overflowing packed cup BS, 1 cup water, boil and stir to make simple syrup, reduce to simmer, add 2 tbsp bourbon, 1 tbsp vanilla extract, stir and cool)

--Digital prints are so fun! The best thing you can do is show them mocked up in a space and then also in other ways you see people using it (desktop wallpaper, tiny framed on their desk, collaged onto a journal, etc. (most people struggle with visualizing)).

Good luck!

I always love a chai tea latte or a London Fog latte.

Jenna O'Brien's avatar

It’s really hard to beat either of those!

Hi! I love your good things list and I like digital prints, but prefer paper! I sent you a dm asking a question about making color palettes! :)

Madeleine D'arcy Marston's avatar

Oh my! I just published my "how to get organised" article, ALL about finding the joy and creativity in making lists! and how if you turn it into a mindful and genuinely fun practice, you start feeling inclined to use lists for the practicals things too! Sometimes you gotta love when the algorithm does its thing <3

Jenna O'Brien's avatar

Creativity and lists just go together!

Annie Silva's avatar

I love this because sometimes if I’m stressed I go into list making overdrive. This is a great perspective shift for me. Also for latte flavors, earl grey syrup 😉

Jenna O'Brien's avatar

HEARD on earl grey syrup!

Yes, you sould like me!

The scent log and stranger log are going straight into my notebook!! I love the idea of lists as a safe place for creativity to land: no pressure, just collecting. And "perfect is so boring" is the coolest aunt thing you could have possibly said :)

Jenna O'Brien's avatar

Oh fun! Glad new lists have been born!

Cindy Rodriguez's avatar

ohhhh the nostalgia of the smashbook!! yes, yes. I loved mine. I wanted one in every color. I LOVE making lists. Always have. And I cannot believe I don't have a Wreck This Journal yet. I know...I know.

Jenna O'Brien's avatar

YES! Another Smash*Book haver!!

Cindy Rodriguez's avatar

I wish I still had mine! It was so much fun. And buying the little add-ins like the calendars or the little pockets 🥰. I do still have a collage I made from some of the pages of my Smash Book

I have been craving a home made lavender foam to drink with my matcha!

You should try Listnivo! Brand new mobile platform where people share inspiring lists.

Another log I like to keep is a log of good news I receive from either friends and family or the world! It’s really nice to look back and remember good things are still happening!

Jenna O'Brien's avatar

Oh gosh, this is perfect.

Cassie's avatar

Completely adored this post - I’ve always been a natural list maker and always thought it was part of my Type A personality, but this opened my eyes to seeing it as a creative practice too 🥰

Jenna O'Brien's avatar

Lists are SO creative!! Glad you enjoyed!

Rach Rose's avatar

I loved this post! & I have always loved lists. My notes app is fullllll of them. Also, matcha, raspberry, & honey for coffee/ tea flavors!

Jenna O'Brien's avatar

Ooo, raspberry is an underrated spring flavor!

Hannah's avatar

Oh I love this! I’m definitely a list maker (maybe too much of one??), so it feels so nice to think of it as creative:) better lists are in my future!

And for the questions…1) I love a London fog year round but adding lavender or rose to it feels cute and springy!

2) I procrastinate on actually printing my digital prints and I also procrastinate on buying frames so I am my own worst enemy no matter what form the prints are in haha but I do prefer physical to save a step

3) I’ll never stop recommending Anne of Green Gables- what a joy and wonderful example of whimsy!! I also love Housekeeping by Marilynne Robinson at this time of the year when winter is thawing out

Jenna O'Brien's avatar

Hannah — lavender in a london fog is the best ever. YES. And thank you for the books recs!

Jessie Anderson's avatar

I LOVE LOVE LOVE THIS! Lists are my favourite!

Jenna O'Brien's avatar

Ah, thank you Jessie!

Obsessed with Amanda Cullin now, wow, her art is amazing! So whimsical. My only problem now is how the heck am I going to choose a print for my office when I like them all?!

Jenna O'Brien's avatar

Right?! She does custom commissions too, which I feel would be such special gifts.

Loved reading this today! I already keep a daily joy log on my phone and I have a Goodreads account which is sort of like a book log but I’d love to keep a hope log that sounds like a lot of fun ✨ I’ve also been thinking a lot about ambition lately (and plan to write about it soon!) so hearing about your interview is really inspiring 💭

Jenna O'Brien's avatar

Love your daily joy log! Keep writing and keep filling that Goodreads!

Lots of great stuff here, but the most intriguing is this:

Here are some color palette ideas for an upcoming project you have (or a Google Calendar refresh)!

How do you do a Google Calendar refresh?!??

Jenna O'Brien's avatar

Ah yes! You can customize the colors! A lot of people use my palettes to redo their calendars seasonally, which is so fun! So all your events will show up all beautifully and cohesively. Should I post a tutorial soon??
